Under North Carolina General Statute §58-71-50, you must meet the following qualifications:

Basic Eligibility

  • At least 21 years old

  • North Carolina resident for 6 consecutive months

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Valid NC driver’s license or state ID

  • No outstanding bail bond obligations

  • No violations of NC bail statutes

Automatic Disqualifications

You cannot become licensed if you:

  • Have ever been convicted of a felony

  • Have a misdemeanor drug conviction within 24 months

  • Are a sheriff, deputy, police officer, judge, attorney, probation officer, jailer, or other justice system employee

  • Are the spouse of certain disqualified public officials
